I've seen pro cellists use both microphones and pickups on different occasions, and usually pickups are the choice for loud situations.
Also, if I got a pickup that's another 100-200 dollars that could be spent on other tools. As as general rule, a pickup will not get as natural a sound as as a microphone a foot or two back. The cello is an extremely complex instrument which radiates sound all over the place. In case you haven't noticed, I'm pretty clueless on the whole effects thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated. It seems nice, but I'm not sure how good the onboard delays and reverbs are. Would I need a DI after this? I've looked at the Cowon A2.1u. So I could go straight to the effects box after the preamp. I am after the natural cello sound, and this is easy to lose, so I need a delay that doesn't screw with the signal at all.įirst of all, how do you connect any microphone to an effects box? My microphone requires phantom power and a preamp, so I'll have to get one, but where does this line go after the preamp? The preamps I'm looking at all have balanced outputs, so I don't really need a DI do I? Could I use basically any effects box after a preamp? Or does it have to be specifically tailored towards acoustic instruments? Would I need a DI after the effects pedal? Although I will have other instruments on stage.would this cause trouble with the delays? The thing I need most in the delays are maintenance of the original sound.
